A luthier shop site built for a real client in Falmouth, Nova Scotia, serving the Annapolis Valley, not a concept mockup.
A custom instrument shop sells on craftsmanship people need to see up close. Burl tops, flamed maple, binding, hand-turned knobs: none of that comes across in a sentence. The site had to put the real finished builds front and centre, explain exactly what the shop offers, and give a player a clear path from “I want one” to a conversation with the builder.
A single-page site built around the builder's own work and voice. The hero opens on one of James's actual guitars, and the “Why I Build Guitars” section tells his real story, starting with an SG copy he built at 14 with his Dad. Three service cards cover what the shop actually does: guitar and bass building (including 4, 5 and 6-string basses and left-handed builds), hand-turned accessories, and wood selections. A gallery of real shop photos filters by Guitars & Basses, Accessories and Details, with a full-size lightbox. A four-step process (Design Talk, Wood Picking, The Build, First Play) shows how a commission works, real customer testimonials back it up, and the contact section points straight to the shop's email.
This is a real client site, so the goal wasn't a portfolio piece, it was a showroom that starts conversations. A visitor can see the finish quality in real photos, understand what can be commissioned, and know what the process looks like before they ever send an email, so the first message James gets is already about a specific build. Domain and hosting stay entirely in the client's hands, this is the build, not the hosting.
